Prospect Construction is currently seeking a Traveling Water Transmission Main Superintendent to join our team based out of our Wyoming office. This is a full-time, traveling position with extended time away from home base.

ROLE: Traveling Water Transmission Main Superintendent

The Traveling Water Transmission Main Superintendent is the on-site leader for large-diameter water transmission main and pipeline projects across multiple states. This individual directs self-perform crews and subcontractors and is fully accountable for safety, schedule performance, production, quality control, and building the project in strict accordance with plans, specifications, and applicable utility and code standards.

When conflicts or revisions to the plans come up, the Superintendent works with the project team, including the Project Manager, Engineer, and Owner, to resolve them before any work deviates from the approved plans. This role requires a proactive leader who is willing to travel extensively, builds and develops strong field teams, and takes ownership of delivering successful projects.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Field Leadership & Crew Development:

• Lead all on-site construction activities and daily field operations, and walk the project daily to monitor progress and plan upcoming work.

• Supervise and direct self-perform union craft crews and foremen, including operators, laborers, and pipefitters.

• Help build and grow field teams by identifying, recruiting, and hiring qualified crew members.

• Plan daily and weekly work, assign crews and equipment, and track production (such as feet of pipe installed per day) against the budgeted labor hours and quantities.

• Coordinate and manage subcontractors, suppliers, surveyors, and testing agencies.

• Lead preconstruction meetings with each crew and subcontractor, daily crew huddles, and weekly coordination meetings.

• Provide direction and resolve problems on the project.

• Travel to and manage projects across multiple states as assigned, including extended time away from home base.

Pipeline Construction:

• Oversee pipeline installation, including pipe staging and stringing, trenching and shoring, bedding, pipe laying and joining, fittings and valves, thrust restraint, backfill, and compaction.

• Plan and coordinate tie-ins and connections to existing water systems with the water agency, including shutdowns and customer notifications.

• Oversee hydrostatic pressure and leak testing, disinfection, and bacteriological testing to meet AWWA and agency requirements.

• Oversee site layout and survey control, utility locates and crossings, traffic control, dewatering, and erosion and sediment control.

• Manage work within rights-of-way and easements, and oversee surface restoration.

Scheduling & Documentation:

• Develop and maintain three-week look-ahead schedules, and provide field input to the project CPM schedule managed by the Project Manager.

• Schedule crews, subcontractors, and vendors within the critical path to ensure timely completion.

• Order and schedule pipe, material, and equipment deliveries.

• Maintain daily jobsite logs documenting progress, manpower, equipment, weather, and delays.

• Review and approve crew time cards and track labor hours by cost code.

• Track material submittals and approvals, and keep as-built markups current.

• Communicate with the project team regarding RFIs, pipe alignment sheets, and material submittals, and write routine reports and correspondence.

Quality Control:

• Establish and enforce jobsite quality control programs to ensure quality completion of construction.

• Perform quality control inspections, including pipe alignment and grade, bedding, and compaction testing.

• Issue notices of non-compliance regarding quality of work or scheduling.

• Identify punch list items throughout the job and manage their completion through closeout.

Safety & Compliance:

• Enforce Prospect Construction, Inc.’s Safety and Health policies and lead weekly safety meetings.

• Oversee high-hazard work, including excavation and trenching, shoring and trench boxes, work near live utilities, and work in traffic.

• Ensure crews and subcontractors comply with their contracted scope of work and with safety, health, and environmental quality standards, including OSHA and AWWA requirements.

• Coordinate required inspections with water agencies and local jurisdictions, and assist in obtaining permits and approval of revisions.

Project Support:

• Track and report extra work, changed conditions, and time-and-materials work to support change orders.

 

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of verifiable water transmission main or large-diameter pipeline construction experience.

• Experience managing crews and projects involving pipe installation, trenching, shoring, tie-ins, and pressure and leak testing.

• Experience supervising union craft crews.

• Strong experience in leadership, safety, planning, and crew management.

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, pipe alignment sheets, safety rules, and procedure manuals.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook).

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

• Willingness and ability to travel extensively and relocate to project sites as needed.

• Ability to safely lift up to 75 lbs.

• Endurance and ability to access the entire jobsite, including open trench excavations and remote work areas.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with ductile iron, steel, PVC, or HDPE water transmission pipe.

• Working knowledge of AWWA standards for pipe installation, testing, and disinfection.

• OSHA 30 certification.

• Competent person training for excavation and trenching.

• First Aid/CPR certification.
