Prospect Construction, Inc. began as a General Contractor, specializing in the water and wastewater treatment industries. Prospect Construction’s success in the technical, complicated nature of water and wastewater treatment plant construction has allowed seamless crossover to other fields of construction, including cogeneration, biogas treatment, fish facilities, utilities, bridges and building projects.
Prospect Construction is currently seeking an Accountant to join the team at our Puyallup, WA office.
Description Summary:
The Accountant is essential to the organizational success of the company. The ideal candidate’s primary responsibilities consist of accurate processing of financial transactions including AP/AR, payroll and GL management as well as ensuring the company has established and maintained an effective set of internal accounting records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure the accuracy of the general ledger, journal entries, trial balance and related financial reports.

Process payroll; inclusive of union employees, associated fringe benefits and reporting.

Subcontractor compliance and certified payroll tracking & auditing.

Oversee the review, approval, and processes of AP/AR functions.

Manage project financial closeout, ensure final contract amounts and closeout documentation has been received from all subcontractors prior to issuing final payments and retention.

Manage and track lien releases and required billing documentation from subcontractors prior to issuing payments throughout the duration of the project.

Report on the company’s financial health and liquidity.

Responsible for the timely and accurate processing of day-to-day transactions (such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, operating expenses, job costing, bank reconciliations, general ledger entries, financial statements preparations and others).

Files required payroll related tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.

Work with an outside accounting firm to prepare annual tax returns and audits.

Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills:
-
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite with a focus on Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Detail oriented with the ability to work with great accuracy.

Diverse understanding of construction project accounting.

Strong analytical and quantitative skills as demonstrable by the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information.

Knowledge of construction pay applications, lien releases, certified payroll, prevailing wage, Davis Bacon, LCP Tracker, UCC filings, insurance certificates, affidavits/intents, apprentice utilization reports, OCIP/CCIP projects, and project closeout documents for private, public works and federal projects preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

3+ years of experience as an accountant within the construction industry.

Experience with public works projects.

Experience using Spectrum Software.

Washington State Notary.
Physical Demands:
Work is generally performed while standing or sitting, in an office environment, with a computer and telephone.
Work Environment:
Employees may be required to travel to construction job sites occasionally.
The employee may be required to wear appropriate PPE equipment such as a hard hat, protective footwear, high visibility clothing, and safety glasses.

Salary Range DOE: $70,000-$90,000 year
