Prospect Construction’s success in the technical, complicated nature of water and wastewater treatment plant construction has allowed seamless crossover to other fields of construction, including cogeneration, biogas treatment, fish facilities, utilities, bridges and building projects.


Prospect Construction is currently seeking a Lead Construction Accountant to join the team at our Puyallup, WA office.

The Lead Construction Accountant is essential to the organizational success of Prospect Construction. The ideal candidate’s primary responsibility consists of monitoring the company’s profitability, liquidity, and solvency while ensuring timely and accurate financial and document reporting while making sure the company has established and maintained an effective set of internal accounting records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the accuracy of all internal financial reports.

  • Monitor and accurately report company profitability.

  • Enter and maintain accurate records of job costs such as timecards, vendor and subcontractor invoices, equipment cost records and all other project costs incurred.

  • Enter and track project and contract related costs.

  • Invoice projects with a complete understanding of progressive billing, application of payment, SOV, retention, release, and waiver.

  • Manage and keep track of project original contract amount, change orders, credits, and all associated project costs.

  • Job cost all completed projects.

  • Provide accurate certified payroll reports.

  • Manage project financial closeout, ensure final contract amounts and closeout documentation has been received from all subcontractors prior to issuing final payments.

  • Manage and track lien releases and required billing documentation from subcontractors prior to issuing payments throughout the duration of the project.

  • Maintain a billing log and prepare retention billings at the end of the project.

  • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills 

  • Excellent computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office Suite with a focus on Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Detail oriented with the ability to work with great accuracy.

  • Diverse understanding of construction project accounting.

  • Knowledge of construction pay applications, lien releases, certified payroll, prevailing wage, Davis Bacon, LCP Tracker, UCC filings, insurance certificates, affidavits/intents, apprentice utilization reports, OCIP/CCIP projects, and project closeout documents for private, public works and federal projects preferred.


  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in accounting and/or finance or equivalent combination of education & experience.

  • 5+ years of Construction Accounting experience.

  • Full knowledge of labor compliance forms

  • Experience with Union payroll and associated fringe benefits along with their reporting.

  • Experience in job cost accounting and financial reporting.

  • Experience with Subcontractor compliance and certified payroll tracking & auditing.

  • Experience with public works projects preferred.

  • Experience using Spectrum Software preferred.

  • Washington State Notary preferred but not required.

Physical Demands and Work environment 

This job requires the employee to sit, climb, stand, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Employee may be required to travel to construction job sites occasionally.

The employee may be required to wear appropriate PPE equipment such as a hard hat, protective footwear, high visibility clothing, and safety glasses.
